What data we are collecting and how we will use it

If you email us to provide feedback or ask a question we process the following personal data:

  • Email address
  • The feedback you provide

Your feedback will be received by the Connectivity Tool team who will respond you as required.

When you use the connectivity tool, each interaction with the application results in a log entry. Many such log entries will be generated during a typical user session. These are collected to facilitate debugging of general application behaviour. They are not linked to your email addresses, though in aggregate could in theory be used to construct user profiles (which we do not do).

  • IP address
  • Timestamp of interaction with the application
  • Type of interaction with the application
  • Operating system, browser and browser version used

Our lawful basis for collecting your data

Under data protection law, the lawful basis for processing your data is:

Article 6(1)(e) – public task

Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.

Data sharing

DfT will not share your personal data with any third-party organisation.

How long we retain the data

Your personal data will be securely stored by DfT. Your feedback or query will be retained for 6 months then permanently deleted.
